Renewable fuel regulations have been a key policy action which governments have implemented to achieve progress toward their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets. Unfortunately, the renewable fuels data used to produce Canada’s most recent official GHG emissions inventory is too low by a factor of two at the national level, with even larger variance in provincial allocation. This blog discusses the implications of this data gap and the importance of ensuring robust, consistent, and provincial-level tracking of biofuels for next year’s inventory.
