Quantifying the economic benefits of the NRCan Major Project Inventory

April, 2025

Summary

The Public Policy Forum (PPF) prepared a playbook “Build Big Things” outlining recommendations for governments across Canada to catalyze regulatory approval of and investment in energy, mining and infrastructure projects in Canada. To support with this effort, PPF commissioned Navius to quantify the potential economic impact of projects on the Natural Resources Canada Major Projects Inventory, including second-order effects along the project supply chain. The analysis found that advancing the 500+ projects in this inventory could have a cumulative GDP impact between 2026 and 2035 of $975-1,115 billion, which represents an increase to Canada’s GDP of 3.1-3.5%.
